Another dead cat found in Yishun despite arrest of alleged abuser!

SINGAPORE - Another dead cat has been found in Yishun, despite an alleged cat abuser being arrested earlier this week.

Cat interest group Yishun 326 Tabby Cat said that the cat was found at 3pm on Wednesday (Dec 30) at Block 734, Yishun Avenue 5.

"The cat has blood on the ears and mouth. The cat is a big sized female tabby about 7kg in weight," it said in a Facebook post.
The group also appealed for witnesses or anyone with more information to come forward.
The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore is performing a post-mortem to confirm if this is a case of abuse, Nee Soon GRC MP Louis Ng said.

"I do believe there is more than one cat killer, and AVA and SPF are actively continuing their investigations. The community is also continuing with their efforts on the ground," Mr Ng said.

Urging anyone with information to contact the AVA at 1800-476-1600, he said: "I hope it's not another case of abuse, but it is still sad news that another cat died today. Rest in peace."
The cat is the latest victim in a series of cat abuse cases in the area.

Last Saturday (Dec 26), the carcass of a dead cat was found floating in a pond next to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

In another incident last week, a cat was found with two fractured legs and required surgery.

So far, about 20 cats have been found dead or seriously injured in the Yishun area in the last three months, including Wednesday's case. Only two have survived.

On Tuesday, a 40-year-old man was charged with one count of animal cruelty.

Lee Wai Leong allegedly threw a cat to its death from the 13th floor of a HDB block in Yishun.

Cat found dead in Yishun pond in another case of alleged abuse!

SINGAPORE - The body of a grey-white cat was found floating in a Yishun pond on Saturday morning (26 Dec).

Ms Janet Sum, founder of cat interest Facebook group Yishun 326 Tabby Cat, said that she was informed of the incident by an officer from the National Parks Board (NParks) at about 8am.
"A dead cat was found floating at 8am this morning in the Yishun pond next to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital," said the group in a Facebook post at 9.45am on Saturday (Dec 26).

The group posted photos of the dead cat floating beside two black and white objects which looked like buoys.

The police was at the scene, the post said. The group also appealed for witnesses to come forward if they have any information.

Dear Yishunites and Mira FriendsA dead cat was found floating at 8.00 am this morning in the Yishun pond next to Khoo...

It is unclear if this incident is linked to the recent spate of cat abuse cases in the neighbourhood since September.

Last week (Dec 22), a cat was found with two fractured legs, and underwent "difficult surgery that required a CT scan, with internal and external plates and pins fixed".
The medical bill is estimated to be about $7,000.

Just days before, MP for Nee Soon GRC Louis Ng announced the formation of a new grassroots fast-response team to gather evidence and hunt the serial cat killers.

Other cats have been found with extensive injuries after being thrown from a height. Some suffered severe trauma to the head and back or injuries to the intestinal organs. One was found with a gouged eye and slit tongue, one had its limbs chopped off and one was strangled.

Under the Animals and Birds Act, anyone found guilty of cruelty to animals can be jailed up to 18 months, fined up to $15,000 or both.

Members of the public with any information about the cat abuse cases may call the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore at 1800-476-1600, e-mail or call the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' 24-hour hotline at 6287-5355, ext 9.

I hope EVERYONE staying at Yishun can keep a look out for the culprit. If you have a bicycle, go an extra mile to patrol around if you are free. You can just save another cat from being abused or dying!

18th 'CAT ABUSE' Case in Yishun; Latest Cat Found with Two Fractured Legs!

Oli with its fractured legs bandaged after extensive surgery. PHOTO: YISHUN 326 TABBY CAT/FACEBOOK
SINGAPORE (MY PAPER) - In another case of alleged cat abuse in Yishun, a cat was found seriously injured with two fractured legs last Friday (Dec 18).

According to cat activists, vets who treated it said its injuries were consistent with the recent spate of abuse cases.

This is the 18th alleged cat abuse case in Yishun in the past three months, with 16 cats dead and two injured, Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao reported on Tuesday (Dec 22).

Last Tuesday, MP for Nee Soon GRC Louis Ng announced the formation of a new grassroots fast-response team to gather evidence and hunt the serial cat killers.

But just three days later, a cat named Oli was found with broken legs at the void deck of Block 170, Yishun Avenue 7, according to Facebook group Yishun 326 Tabby Cat.

Dear Yishunites and FriendsOli , the seriously injured cat picked up from blk 170 is classified as another abuse case...

It was taken to Mount Pleasant Vet Centre, where it underwent "difficult surgery that required a CT scan, with internal and external plates and pins fixed", according to the group's Facebook page. The medical bill is estimated to cost about $7,000.

The cat welfare volunteer group said in a post early Tuesday that "the prognosis is good".

In an interview with My Paper, a spokesman from animal welfare group Cat Welfare Society (CWS) warned that cat abusers "will only get bolder". She added that such acts must be curbed before they translate to harm to humans.

She pointed out that, to date, only one cat abuser has been punished by the law. In 2006, serial cat abuser David Hooi was jailed twice for separately torturing two kittens in Bedok. He received a three-month jail term the first time and 12 months for the second.

On Saturday, CWS held a volunteer dialogue session on how to progress animal welfare here. Mr Ng, who is the founder and executive director of animal welfare group Animal Concerns Research and Education Society, was also present.

A unanimous call was made by the participants for technologies and resources available to the police to be made available to those handling crimes involving animals.

THIS SHOULD BE SERIOUSLY DEALT WITH.. Residents staying at Yishun precinct should put their heart out to arrest the abuser and save the cats from further abusing. If I'm staying in that area I wouldn't mind heading out even late at night to just see if there's any possible trace of arresting the abuser. Even then.. one person to keep a look out isn't easy, but with the entire community around that estate & precinct.. I'm sure the heartless culprit would fall into the net.

SIGNS TO OFFER YOUR HELP in arresting the culprit:
  • Screaming sounds of cats at night
  • Blood stains
